New SMS Rules Alert for Irish Vets and all Irish Businesses & Companies
This article specifically focuses on independent Irish Vets, however please note this ComReg rule applies to all Irish Businesses & Companies.
If you’re an Irish Vet (or indeed any Irish Business) using a third-party provider to send text messages to your clients (i.e. Teleos, PetsApp, Virtual Recall etc.), your messages may now be marked ‘likely scam’ unless you’re registered with ComReg’s Sender ID Registry.
By using the Sender ID Registry, we can see that many independent Vets and Irish Businesses are still not registered. If this applies to you, take action today. Instructions below.
On the other hand, as of today (Tues 8th July), it has come to our attention that even though some businesses have already gone through the motions and registered and been approved by ComReg’s SenderID registration process… these businesses have discovered that their messages still appear as ‘likely scam’. We have feedback on that for you. [Scroll to the 2nd half of this page if this is the case for you].
We have written this article specifically to be proactive about this issue and to create awareness for any independent Irish Vets and Irish Businesses.
🔍 Check if you’re registered:

If you’re not listed, take action today to avoid client trust issues.
✅ Steps to Register:
-
Go to ComReg Sender ID Signup
-
Enter your CRO number (if you don’t know your CRO number, go to the Company Registrations Office website: https://core.cro.ie/ and search for your business / company name and you can find it there).
-
If your CRO number is recognised, skip the next 4 paragraphs. Proceed to Step 8.
-
If your CRO is rejected on the ComReg form (unfortunately this is common with 6-digit Irish numbers), then there is a workaround: Simply leave what you’re doing and create a Word document. Paste the following sentence (but amend the XXX’s and change the link to be your listing on the CRO website):
-
‘The system won’t recognise my CRO number. Please note it is XXXXXX, as found on [insert link to your unique page on CRO website].’
- Create a PDF of your Word doc
-
Go back to your Application form on the ComReg site and click “I don’t have a CRO number” on the form and upload your PDF.
-
Enter your Sender ID (your Practice name, no spaces).
-
Assign the relevant OPA for your 3rd parties.
Having gone through this ourselves, if you are an Irish Vet and use Teleos or Virtual Recall, we can speed you up as we have already contacted them to get their OPA. Enter their OPA as follows:
-
Teleos: Select “Selerity Systems”
-
Virtual Recall: Select “Cisco International Limited”
-
📞 If you are not an Irish Vet and/or if you don’t use either of the above; or if you don’t know the name of the OPA that your 3rd party uses, email the following to your 3rd party provider :
“Can you urgently confirm the OPA you use to send bulk SMS on our behalf? ComReg now flags unregistered senders as ‘likely scam’.”
💡 While waiting for approval, amend the following wording to your liking and post this on your website or socials:
“Due to new ComReg regulations, some texts may show as ‘likely scam’. Please rest assured messages from us are safe and genuine. We’re actively working on this fix.”
6. Once you have entered all the OPA’s that your 3rd parties use, then submit the form for approval.

[Update as of 8th July 2025]
✅ Have you been approved, but your messages are still showing as ‘Likely Scam’?
You are not on your own. This has happened many Irish businesses. On this page, ComReg’s advice on this is as follows:
How long does it take for my newly registered Sender ID to be recognised, and therefore not modified, by participating aggregators and mobile service providers?
After registering your Sender ID, it needs to be approved by ComReg. Once approved, your Sender ID will be added to a “white list” that will be made available to mobile service providers and participating aggregators daily, just after midnight. However, there may be a time interval before the updated list is implemented by all SMS providers, and during this time your SMS Sender ID may be modified to ‘Likely Scam’. Once the white list is implemented by all SMS providers your SMS messages will be delivered normally i.e., the Sender ID will not be modified.
